Buffer schedules your posts.
CoreLayerEngine makes them.
Buffer is a well-made scheduler: you write and design posts, it queues and publishes them, with a text AI assistant for rewrites. CoreLayerEngine plans the topics, writes and designs in 40 languages, picks the hour for each post and learns from the results. Different jobs; here is the honest split.
The short answer
Choose Buffer if you enjoy writing your own content, need the lowest possible per-channel price, and want a clean, proven queue. Choose CoreLayerEngine if the content itself is the bottleneck: you want the ideas, the design, copy in your language, approvals and learning done for you, with approval control kept.

The pricing maths nobody shows you
Per-channel pricing punishes exactly the growth you want. Nine channels on Buffer Essentials is $54 a month on monthly billing, and that is still you doing the writing and the design. CoreLayerEngine Launch is $20 a month for every network, with the writing, the design, the timing and the reporting included. If your time is worth anything, the gap is bigger than the price difference.
What changes when you switch
The Sunday content session disappears. Drafts wait for you instead of the reverse; languages you could not serve get posts written in them; the report explains itself; and everything is reversible: export your data any time, and the Free plan means trying the switch costs nothing.
What Buffer does better, honestly
- Simpler surface: a queue is easier to learn than an engine
- Wider network coverage for niche channels (Bluesky, Mastodon)
- Longer track record and a bigger integration ecosystem
- Cheaper for 1–3 channels if you enjoy creating your own content
If that's your shape, Buffer is a good tool. We'd rather tell you than have you churn.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is CoreLayerEngine a Buffer alternative?
For scheduling, yes, and it adds what Buffer doesn't attempt: topics chosen for you, AI design and reels, 40-language writing, listening, approvals and learning from results. Teams that only want a manual queue may find Buffer simpler; teams that want the content made should compare seriously.
Which is cheaper, Buffer or CoreLayerEngine?
Depends on channel count. At 1–3 channels with you creating everything, Buffer's per-channel pricing ($6 a channel a month, $5 billed yearly) is cheaper. At five or more channels, CoreLayerEngine Launch ($20 a month, every network, content included) usually wins, before counting the hours of writing and design it removes.
Can I move from Buffer easily?
There's no queue to move; that's the point. Connect your channels, complete your brand profile (pasting your website helps), and it starts proposing posts. You can run both side by side while you compare.
Does Buffer post on its own?
As of 5 October 2026, no. Buffer's AI Assistant drafts and rewrites text when asked, but choosing topics, design, timing and learning stay with you. That assistant-versus-engine difference is the core difference between the two products.
